Unique Engagement Rings from Romancing the Stone

Platinum, one of the most precious metals on earth, is generally 90-95% pure to when used in jewelry. It must be mixed with iridium or a similar element to become soft enough to work with.

18kt gold is 75% pure. It is often mixed with minute amounts of different elements such as copper or nickel to affect the color. 14kt gold has enough impurities that is not considered gold in many countries, such as Japan.

As a general rule, more expensive platinum will stand the test of time better than 18kt gold because it is considerably heavier.  A proper platinum setting will complement a sizable diamond better than white gold.

Sizing Rings

In the U.S. ring sizes range from 0 to 16 in 1/4 unit increments. Your finger size may fluctuate with temperature, weather, and other physical conditions. For greatest accuracy, measure your finger at night when it’s largest.

We can mount “speed bumps” or “Tiffany balls” inside a ring so that it stays in place well during the winter, but still comes off easily in the summer. Other modifications allow a ring to slip over large knuckles but still remain in place.

Most of our rings can be modified easily by one or two sizes. The simpler the design, the easier to size. Some rings with side stones and colored gemstones are difficult to size because of the fragility of the gems. We will let you know whether a stone would need to be removed or remounted for proper sizing. If a specific ring cannot be sized to fit your finger, we would be happy to create a custom ring of a similar design.
